Leadership change won't affect Oxford hospital construction

OXFORD – The resignation of Don Hutson as administrator of Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi will not affect planning for a new hospital facility, a spokesman said.
Hutson, who is a retired Army officer, resigned last week from the position he’d held since 2008. Ayoka Pond, a spokesman for Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation, said, “We thank Don for his years of service to this community and wish him much success in his future endeavors.”
Jim Ainsworth, who preceded Hutson as the hospital’s administrator, will serve as interim administrator until a permanent successor is found.
The Memphis-based healthcare system bought the hospital last year from Lafayette County and the city of Oxford with promises to build a new one.
The location was announced earlier this year as a roughly 160-acre property west of the existing hospital.
Officials have said the hospital might open in late 2016.
