Lee Co. Library unveils vision

TUPELO – It will cost an estimated $26,674,143 to construct a new city-county library located across from City Hall inside downtown’s Fairpark District, according to Lee County Library officials on Thursday.

Lee County Library Director Jeff Tomlinson and his board released that estimate, plus two architectural designs of how the new building would look in the desired spot, during a Lee County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The designs are just examples, though, and could significantly change.

The projected price tag doesn’t include property acquisition, which could add about $600,000 to the overall costs.

Library officials said the current facility is outdated and too small for the community’s growing needs. Renovating it and adding more parking would cost about the same as building a new structure, they said.
