TUPELO – The Lee County school board approved the purchase of eight school buses by the district during Tuesday’s meeting.
The buses cost about $670,000 and were purchased from a 3-mil, one-year note that the district renews each year.
The district also bought eight buses last year after not being able to purchase any during the 2009-10 school year because of budget cuts.
Business manager Randy Thweatt said in order to ensure the district does not use any buses more than 10 years old, it would ideally need to add 10 buses per year. The current level of funding does not allow it to that.
