Lee County board upholds termination

TUPELO – The Lee County School Board upheld the termination of Shannon High School English teacher Victoria Ashby in a 4-0 vote on Thursday night.
Board member Mary Edwards, who represents Shannon, abstained from voting.
The district would not say why Ashby was terminated, citing privacy on personnel issues. Ashby was fired in March and requested a personnel hearing that was also held last month.
Ashby, in her ninth year as a teacher, can appeal the decision to chancery court. Attorney Bo Rideout represented her on behalf of the Mississippi Association of Educators, for which he is general counsel.
