TUPELO – Beginning Monday, the bridge on County Road 185 in the southwestern corner of the county will closed for about six weeks, allowing time for installation of a new bridge.
The road is located about three miles south of Palmetto Road and intersects with County Road 261.
The 25-foot-long bridge scored below acceptable state standards, and replacing it will cost about $272,433, said Lee County Road Manager Tim Allred.
After that bridge is replaced, another will close on County Road 300, a 100-foot-long structure that also failed to meet state safety standards. Due to necessary upgrades, this bridge near old Highway 45 will cost nearly $1 million to replace, Allred said.
“We ask that people be patient with us as the roads are replaced,” said District 4 Supervisor Tommie Lee Ivy, whose area covers both bridges.
