SHANNON – The Lee County School District will hire its own physical therapist for special education students.
The Lee County School Board approved the new position at its Tuesday meeting at Shannon Primary School.
Currently the district contracts with a private provider for services.
For the money the district currently is committing – $62,000 plus additional fees – the district can hire a dedicated staff person who can serve more children with an educational physical therapy approach.
The physical therapist, who will be hired for the 2011-2012 school year, will travel throughout the county as its staff occupational therapist currently does and will have space at each school.
