Lee County fight moves to grand jury; no charges filed yet

TUPELO – The Lee County Sheriff Department released more details Monday about an altercation that left one man dead and another brought in for questioning.

No charges have been filed and a grand jury will decided if an indictment should be handed down, according to Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson at a news conference this afternoon.

Ladarrius Walton, 20, of Green Tee Road apparently visited his friend, Laranzo Burdine, 19, at 109 W. Garrison St. in the Green Tee neighborhood of Lee County Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

The two men reportedly had an argument and exited the house.

Johnson said he’s been told that Walton threw a punch at Burdine and missed, then Burdine responded and struck Walton.

Walton was taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center and died from internal injuries.

Johnson said his department questioned Burdine and no charges have been filed because the incident was ruled self defense.

The case will move to a grand jury for it to decide if any charges should be filed.
