Lee County man charged in hit-and-run

A Lee County man has been charged in a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of another man over the weekend.
Jeffery S. Culver, 49 of 142 County Road 325, was arrested Sunday by Lee County Sheriff’s Department officers.
At 5:49 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to Graham Road in Lee County to an accident involving a pedestrian.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said it appeared Richard Allen Darby, an acquaintance of Culver’s, had been in a one-vehicle accident in which he was not injured. He was walking along the road when he was struck and killed, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Johnson said.
His body has been taken to Jackson for further forensic evaluation.
Culver’s bond was set at $175,000 on Monday.
Johnson said that because Culver has three prior felony convictions – two for narcotics and one for burglary – they will try for an habitual indictment.
