TUPELO – The Lee County Sheriff’s office collected 183 pound of prescription drugs Friday as a part of a national drug take-back initiative.

The program is a way for people with unused or expired medicines to safely dispose of them.

“It’s a way to make sure they don’t get in the hands of the wrong people or back out on the street where they’re sold,” said Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson.”This is the largest amount we’ve ever had.”

The sheriff’s office has participated in the take-back event twice each year for the last three years.
