BREWER – Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies negotiated for about three hours Friday morning to ensure the safe release of a hostage in the Brewer community.
At 10:15 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call concerning a man threatening harm to himself.
When deputies responded, the man answered the door with a gun.
“We backed off and negotiated for about an hour before he turned the 17-year-old boy loose, unharmed,” said Sheriff Jim Johnson. “We negotiated with him for another two hours and talked him into coming out of the house.”
The man was transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center to be evaluated. No one was harmed and he isn’t currently being charged.
“We’re more concerned about having him evaluated,” Johnson said.
Deputies recovered several weapons from the house.
