Leland, MS: Police say counterfeit bills used in drug deal

By The Associated Press

LELAND, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say six people were arrested after some of the suspects tried to buy marijuana with counterfeit bills and someone pulled a gun that had been stolen from the Greenwood Police Department.

Leland Police Investigator Juan Overton said guns were drawn during the dispute but no shots were fired and nobody was hurt. Overton told Delta Democrat Times the dispute happened during an attempted drug deal at a house in Leland. Overton said someone escaped out a window and called police.

He said numerous charges will be filed, but authorities are still investigating the matter.

It’s not clear when the gun was stolen from Greenwood Police. Several guns were stolen from the department by inmates a few years ago. It’s not clear if it was one of those.
