Lightning is believed to be the cause behind a church fire in Plantersville and a house fire in Nettleton Tuesday afternoon.
No injuries were reported in either fire.
Lee County E911 received a call to a home on fire at 30064 Highway 6 in Nettleton at 3:33 p.m. Several departments were called to the home, which had fire filling the attic and moving lower into the house. Fire departments were able to get the fire out around 8 p.m.
Down the road on Highway 6, firefighters were dispatched to Union United Methodist Church in Plantersville close to 4 p.m.
Craig Pettigrew, Union Fire Department chief, said it appeared lightning struck the air conditioning unit at the back of the building. The fellowship hall sustained mostly smoke and water damage, and there was some smoke damage in the sanctuary.
