Literary Festival returns to Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN — After 75 years the Southern Literary Festival is returning to where it started.

Blue Mountain College will host the Southern Literary Foundation event April 7-9. Seven authors and playwrights are among the speakers.

The first festival was held on the BMC campus April 23, 1937, featuring Pulitzer Prize winning author Robert Penn Warren, then a professor at Louisiana State University. It was held last year at Mississippi University for Woman in Columbus.

The foundation includes 24 colleges and universities in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Tennessee. It meets annually to celebrate student creative writing and Southern writing by professionals.

Sessions will be held in Garrett Hall Auditorium, Fisher-Washburn, Guyton Library and Whitfield Residence Hall on campus.
