Lowndes County passes school budget

COLUMBUS — The Lowndes County School District has unanimously approved a $49.77 million budget for the 2011-2012 school year.

The budget, which anticipates a $774,083.41 surplus — the bulk of which is allotted for instruction — includes funding for three new teachers at Caledonia Elementary School as well as completion of construction projects at the central office and Caledonia school campuses.

After Friday’s meeting, district Superintendent Mike Halford told The Commercial Dispatch he was pleased with this year’s budget, which changed little from last year.
