TUPELO – The mall mystery is finally over.
After months of rumors about construction at The Mall at Barnes Crossing, officials announced Thursday a multiphase expansion and renovation to the regional shopping center.
The expansion will kick off with two new anchor stores, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Barnes and Noble.
Dick’s Sporting Goods will fill the space opened up by Parisian’s departure earlier this summer. Dick’s carries brand-name sporting goods equipment, apparel and footwear and will occupy about 52,000 square feet.
Barnes and Noble also will set up shop in the north end of the mall. The 29,000-square-foot store will include a Starbucks Coffee. The store will require the mall to build out from the current structure, but Jeff Snyder, the mall’s general manager, said it wouldn’t affect available parking significantly.
Dick’s and Barnes and Noble should open in the spring.
Other stores will relocate and expand. The food court will be improved, too.
