GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A Jackson man faces charges of aggravated assault, carjacking and kidnapping after he led police on a high-speed chase Sunday.
WLOX TV reports that Gulfport police accused 29-year-old Darrion Donte Tyler of driving a stolen car when he struck a man walking to work.
Police say a woman stopped to help the man hit by Tyler and that Tyler physically assaulted her and stole her car while she was inside. Police say the woman jumped out of the car. Authorities say Tyler then allegedly nearly struck police officers patrolling the area.
When an officer tried to stop Tyler, he reportedly fled to Biloxi, where he crashed the car.
Gulfport Capt. Neal Stachura said both victims were treated for injuries that were not life threatening.
