PONTOTOC – A Pontotoc man has been arrested Wednesday in connection with Tuesday’s hit-and-run death of Lequintray D. Williams, 21, of Pontotoc.

Juan M. Hernandez, 36, of Pontotoc, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality an is being held in the Pontotoc County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Ray Hall, Williams was killed in a crash around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 278 and Highway 345.

Hall said the collision caused Williams’ SUV to overturn, ejecting him from the vehicle. Williams was transported to a local hospital and died from injuries sustained in the crash.

MHP said Wednesday morning that it found the black Dodge pickup truck that Hernandez was driving. The truck had been traveling south on Highway 345 at the time of the accident.

this could’ve been avoided like so many wrecks on 78, if the highway patrol was out doing their jobs. i was on my way home from work one day and there was a driver who was darting in and out of traffic on 78. he fishtailed off the road and hit the concrete barrier almost turning over. i called 911 twice, once in lee and again in Itawamba county and not one officer responded and didn’t think it was a priority to get a driver that was clearly on something off the road.
