WEST POINT — One man is dead and another in custody after a stabbing late Sunday night at a small nightclub in the White Station community of northern Clay County.

Chief Deputy Eddie Scott says deputies were called to “Club G” where they found 60-year-old Benny Oats suffering from an apparent stab wound to his chest. Oats died a short time later at the Clay County Medical Center.

Scott says 41-year-old Charles Smith of West Point was charges with murder. Smith was being held in the county jail pending an initial court appearance.

Oats’ body has been sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.
