Man arrested in theft of brass ship propeller

OCEAN SPRINGS — Authorities say an Ocean Springs man has been charged with grand larceny after investigators determined he dragged a 400-pound brass ship propeller to a scrap yard and sold it.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd tells The Mississippi Press that 23-year-old Chad Norman Hickson was arrested Monday.

Byrd says Hickson allegedly took the propeller on April 4 and the owner reported in missing the next day.

He says the propeller is worth $3,800 and Hickson was paid $578 by the scrap yard.

Hickson remains in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center awaiting an initial hearing before a county judge.

It was not immediately known whether Hickson has an attorney.
