TUPELO – Police are investigating the theft of $10,000 from a man servicing an ATM at the Sprint Mart on South Eason Boulevard.
The robbery occurred about 6 p.m. Friday, and within minutes, a man was arrested for the theft.
Michael Vincent Crump, 25, of Belden was charged with grand larceny. He will be held in the Lee County jail until his initial court appearance on Monday. Crump also has a hold from the Mississippi Department of Corrections because he is on probation.
According to Tupelo Police Capt. Chuck Bunn, in the criminal investigative division, an independent contractor was servicing the ATM, which is inside the store and next to the counter, and had money inside a bag. Bunn said when the contractor went outside to his truck, witnesses reported Crump took money from the bag and left in a white Grand Am.
“Due to the quick response of the Tupelo Police Department patrol division, they apprehended him on Southern Heights at which time the majority of the money was recovered,” Bunn said.
