Man charged with impersonating law enforcement

TUPELO – A Nettleton man was charged Monday in connection with a Friday night traffic stop in which a woman was pulled over by a man impersonating a police officer.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said they have charged Jacob Dye, 24, of Nettleton, with a misdemeanor charge of impersonating a police officer but expect other agencies involved to place felony charges against the man.
A search of Dye’s home allegedly revealed he was in possession of uniforms and equipment from multiple emergency agencies including the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Itawamba County Sheriff’s Office, North Mississippi Medical Center and numerous fire departments.
Johnson said they have no reason to believe the man intended to harm any of the people he pulled over.
Friday night, Johnson’s office received a report that a woman had been pulled over by a suspicious man in a late-model Chevy Malibu. He said they have received similar reports in the past and finally had enough evidence to press charges.
While the charge in Lee County is a misdemeanor, other agencies have placed a hold on Dye, preventing him from bonding out.
