NEW ALBANY – The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving two 18-wheelers that left one man dead.
Jim Bruce, 51, of Waverly, Tenn., was killed when his truck ran into the back of another truck on Highway 78 just outside of Myrtle on Tuesday at 4 a.m. Bruce, a driver for Houston Tank Services out of Paris, Tenn., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Union County Coroner Mark Golding. He said Bruce was transporting a load of produce to Birmingham.
The accident caused traffic on Highway 78 to be back up for much of the morning. Bruce’s truck caught fire, causing the cleanup to be delayed.
His body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
