A 20-year-old Pontotoc County man has been arrested and charged with eight counts of burglary of an auto, reported Sherman Police Chief Joel Spellins.

Spellins said that Byron A. Weatherspoon, of Blackjack Road, Tupelo, has been charged in connection with allegedly burglarizing eight vehicles in Sherman on January 9.

The vehicles, which were all unlocked, were parked in the Dove Creek or North Sherman Estates Subdivisions in Sherman, Spellins said.

“Small electronic devices, a purse, a firearm and a knife were among the items stolen from the vehicles,” Spellins said.

No bond had been set on Monday for Weatherspoon, who is being held in the Union County Jail and faces charges in Pontotoc and Union Counties.

More arrests are expected in connection with the ongoing investigation, Spellins said.
