PURVIS, Miss. (AP) — A Lamar County grand jury has indicted Anthony Rico Gipson for capital murder in the 2011 death of a University of Southern Mississippi student.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/xc2TEr) that the 36-year-old Gipson was initially charged with murder in the death of Brittany Morgan.

District Attorney Hal Kittrell says the grand jury found Morgan’s death occurred during an alleged kidnapping attempt. In Mississippi, capital murder is defined as murder committed along with another crime.

Gipson is being held on $1 million bond in the Lamar County jail.

Authorities say the body of the 22-year-old Morgan was found Feb. 20, 2011, in her home at Towne Villa Apartments. An autopsy showed she died of multiple stab wounds.

Gipson was arrested in Gulfport about six hours after Morgan’s body was found.
