OXFORD — An Oxford man has pleaded guilty in the 2009 shooting death of his wife.

Prosecutors tell the Oxford Eagle that James O. Harwell pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this month in the death of Chris Ann Milam Harwell. Circuit Judge Andrew Howorth sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Harwell also pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault and was given five years in prison to be consecutive to the manslaughter sentence.

Prosecutors say Chris Harwell’s body was discovered on her front porch of her Lafayette County home on April 13, 2009. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She had been shot multiple times.

Their 13-year-old daughter was in the home at the time of the shooting, but was not injured.
