Mantachie High School posted the following statement on their high school Website after the death of a 17-year-old was killed on her prom night Friday by what the Mississippi Highway Patrol suspects was a drunk driver going the wrong way.
“Mantachie High School and the Mantachie community are very saddened by the serious injuries to one of our juniors, Elizabeth Buse, and by the untimely death of junior April Stamper in an automobile accident on Highway 78 Friday night, April 22, 2011. Two other teens were involved in the accident, too, and thankfully escaped serious injury. Visitation will be held at Fawn Grove Free Will Baptist Church Monday, April 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will take place Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the same location.”
Mantachie High School Principal Jeff Credille told the Daily Journal Saturday Stamper was a model student and along with best friend Buse, was an office worker at the school.
“She was very active in school,” he said. “I just can’t say enough. She was a great kid. She was a type kid that everyone wanted in their classroom. She was well-liked by her classmates. We loved April.”
