Firefighters with the Greater Mantachie Fire Department recently received a new fire truck, which the station purchased following more than two years worth of fundraising.
The truck replaces a similar model, which the department purchased in 1994 and sold to the Tilden New Salem Volunteer Fire Department after the new truck arrived. According to Chief Jim Roberts, the old fire truck — one of four utilized by the department — was still in good working. condition, but a newer truck was needed to maintain the station’s rating.
“It’s still a great truck,” Roberts said as the vehicle pulled away from the station. “Some of us hate to see it go.”
The new truck was built specifically for the Greater Mantachie Fire Department.
