Mayes' body is headed to Tennessee

NEW ALBANY — The fate of Adam Mayes’ body has been determined.

Police believe Mayes killed Jo Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter, Adrienne, in their home in Whiteville, Tenn., on April 27. Bain’s two younger daughters were safely recovered after Mayes fatally shot himself when police tracked him down in Union County, Miss., on May 10.

His body has been kept at the state crime lab in Jackson since Mayes’ family would not accept the remains.

Union County Coroner Mark Golding told WTVA.com that the Hardeman County, Tenn., District Attorney’s Office told him Wednesday that the University of Tennessee at Knoxville would accept the remains. Golding says the body will go to one of its departments.

Golding personally drove to Jackson to retrieve the body and will take it to Knoxville.
