McNeill tornado relief stops taking clothing gifts

By The Associated Press

PICAYUNE — So many donated clothing items have been received following the Christmas Day tornado in McNeill that a donation center is no longer accepting them.

Instead, organizers are asking donors to give non-perishable food items, toiletries and gift cards, the Picayune Item reports (http://bit.ly/UetxAW).

Donation coordinators also planned a Saturday yard sale at Pearl River Central Elementary School to benefit tornado victims.

The storm destroyed 28 homes along a 24-mile track through Pearl River and Stone counties.

The American Red Cross is still assisting people with insurance claims, but a shelter has been closed.

For those who would like to make a monetary donation, an account for tornado victims has been set up at First National Bank of Picayune under the name of McNeill Tornado Disaster.
