MDOT Reports Icy Accumulations Across the State

Ghe Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to announce a winter weather alert on roadway conditions for motorists traveling through the state.

As freezing temperatures continue to plague the state, snow and icy precipitation has been reported on roadways, bridges and overpasses in the following areas: all bridges in the Jackson metro area are icing over; I-20 at Norwell Road; I-220 bridges in Hinds County; on I-55 from Louisiana to Copiah County and on Highway 84, Madison, Claiborne, Jefferson, Holmes, Oktibbeha Counties, Highway 16 in Yazoo County, east of Benton especially over the Big Black Bridge and heading east into Madison County, Monroe and Winston Counties as well as Attala Clay, Copiah, Covington, Hinds, Itawamba, Jefferson Davis, Kemper, Lafayette, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Leake, Lee, Lincoln, Lowndes, Marion, Newton, Noxubee, Panola, Pike, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, Smith, Tallahatchie, Tippah, Union, Walthall, and Yalobusha Counties. MDOT would like to ask all motorists when traveling over bridges and overpasses to please drive with extreme caution.

MDOT personnel are continuing to monitor to make sure that Mississippi roadways are safe. Crews are placing de-icing material on affected bridges and overpasses throughout the state. Motorist are encouraged to buckle up for safety, drive safely, stay alert and slow down, especially when driving in wintry weather conditions. MDOT will keep motorists posted on road conditions as information becomes available.
