Memphis-based glass maker laying off 46

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — ACI Glass Products has told the state it plans to eliminate 46 jobs in Shelby County.

The information was contained in a report from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and company officials were not available for comment on Monday, according to The Commercial Appeal.

ACI Glass Products is part of Vitro America, based in Memphis. The company also employs 129 people at a plant in Grenada, Miss.

Vitro was recently sold to American Glass Enterprises after the company filed for bankruptcy protection in April.

The recession reduced demand for glass in the construction and auto industries.
