WALLS — Family and friends of 55-year-old James Irby Jr. are circulating fliers in northwest Mississippi in hope of finding the Memphis, Tenn., man who went missing after a traffic stop May 4 in Walls, Miss.
Walls Police Chief Gary Boisseau tells The Commercial Appeal that Irby was pulled over for a traffic violation on U.S. Highway 61. Family members say Irby was on his way to a funeral in Clarksdale.
Boisseau says Irby was on the phone and then took off across the highway and into the wheat field. He says an officer gave chase but lost him in the high wheat.
Boisseau says authorities searched for Irby along the rural four-lane highway between Memphis and Tunica but never found him. Family members say Irby did not return to Memphis.
