Mexican restaurant to open in mall

TUPELO – The owner of Mexican restaurant D’Casa will open a third location at The Mall at Barnes Crossing.
“They’ll be opening in early November,” said Phillip Purdom, senior vice president of development and mall leasing for David Hocker and Associates, the co-owner of the mall. “We’re really excited to have them and we think they’ll be highly successful.”
The restaurant’s other Tupelo locations are on West Main Street and on South Gloster Street.
D’Casa will replace what was most recently Flat Tire Grille, which closed about a month ago.
Prior to that, it was home to Varsity Grille, which opened three years ago after Ruby Tuesday closed several restaurants across the country.
Mall General Manager Jeff Snyder said D’Casa will have a new look.
“They’re going to completely renovate it,” he said. “They’re adding a fountain inside, to go with the existing fountain outside on the patio.”
Snyder also said a new bar will be built and relocated inside the restaurant.
Like Purdom, he expects D’Casa to be a hit with shoppers and diners.
“They have a proven track record in the market, and we’ve gotten a lot of requests for a Mexican restaurant at the mall,” Snyder said. “So we think it will be a win-win for everybody.”
In addition to D’Casa opening soon, the mall has other tenants set to announce their arrival.
But Purdom said he wasn’t quite ready to identify who they are, pending final approval of the leases.
“There will be three major announcements we’ll be making before the holidays,” he said.
