JACKSON – Gov. Haley Barbour says the state Department of Public Safety has begun an internal investigation into possible impropriety with its own promotion examinations.
Barbour made the announcement during a news conference Monday. Barbour says the results of the recent exams are being thrown out and anyone found to be involved in improper conduct will be “severely punished.”
DPS spokesman Jon Kalahar says the investigation involves promotion exams for the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol.
DPS also oversees agencies including the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Kalahar says those divisions are not being investigated.
Barbour and Kalahar say they’re not releasing details until the investigation is finished. No timetable on the investigation was released.
