SANDERSVILLE — Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton and five parachuting Santas are scheduled to help open a new casino Monday in south Mississippi’s Jones County.

The Bok Homa (BOHK HO-MUH) Casino is being operated by Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

The casino was built on tribal land in Sandersville, north of Laurel. It will have more than 700 slot machines and a quick-serve eatery.

Warren Strain, spokesman for the tribe, says the casino also will have two electronic Black Jack tables and one electronic roulette table.

The development is opposed by religious groups that don’t want more casinos in Mississippi.
