JACKSON — The Mississippi Supreme Court on Thursday declined to hear arguments from Michael Pruitt that he deserves a new trial because his attorney didn’t do a good job.
Pruitt pleaded guilty to three counts involving the 2006 shooting of a 6-year-old Marshall County girl. Pruitt pleaded guilty to kidnapping, aggravated assault and sexual battery. He was sentenced in 2007 to life in prison.
Authorities say the girl was shot in the head and left in the weedy underbrush of an abandoned home near the Cayce community.
The state Court of Appeals last June found that court records showed Pruitt’s guilty plea was voluntary and Pruitt told the trial judge he was satisfied with his attorney.
