JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man reportedly is one of seven people taken hostage during an attack on an oil rig off the coast of Africa.
WLOX-TV reported that James Robertson of Silver Creek, Miss., was taken by gunmen early Monday from the rig about seven miles off the coast of Nigeria.
Nobody answered the phone Tuesday at Robertson’s home when The Associated Press called. Robertson’s relatives told WLBT-TV that they were instructed not to talk to the media.
Officials would only confirm the nationalities of those taken: two from the United States, one from Canada, two from France and two from Indonesia.
Another oil worker from Mississippi, Cody Oswalt of Jackson, came home safely in 2006 after spending five weeks in the hands of Nigerian rebels.
