Miss. man to answer charge of threatening Obama

ABERDEEN — A north Mississippi man is set to appear in federal court Friday to answer a charge that he threatened to kill President Barack Obama.

David Williams of Attala County was arrested Wednesday.

A Secret Service agent’s sworn statement says Williams called the University of Mississippi Medical Center on Tuesday and tried to schedule surgery for his wife. The statement says after Williams was told the hospital wouldn’t do the surgery, he threatened to blow up the hospital and kill Obama, using a racial epithet to describe the president.

Williams was charged with threatening to kill the president and using telephone lines to threaten to damage a building with explosives. If convicted on both counts, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

His public defender was not immediately available Thursday.
