Miss. State in Polls: No. 17 AP, No. 18 USA Today

By Brad Locke/NEMS Daily Journal

Mississippi State took a big jump in the USA Today coaches poll, moving from 24th to No. 18 in this week’s edition. The Bulldogs (8-1) played only one game last week, defeating West Virginia at home on Saturday, 75-62.

MSU moved into the coaches poll just last week, and the current ranking is its highest in this poll since 2003-04, when the Bulldogs were as high as fifth.

State had a pretty good jump in the new AP poll as well, up four spots to No. 17. That’s the highest the Bulldogs have been in the AP since a No. 18 ranking in the 2004-05 season, when it got as high as 11th (it was 17th the following week). MSU was No. 18 in the 2009-10 preseason poll.

MSU’s next game is Saturday against Troy (3 p.m., FSN).
