Madison Hales, 17, of Kossuth showed up at a softball game in Iuka where her Kossuth High School softball team was scheduled to play a game, and a parent spotted her as a spectator in the crowd.
The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office had been pursuing leads to locate the teen after her parents reported her missing from her Highway 2 home in Kossuth about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, said sheriff’s Investigator Tommy Hopkins.
A prayer vigil was held Monday at the Kossuth High School softball field for Hales, who plays third base on the team.
Sheriff Charles Rinehart told the board of supervisors Tuesday morning that Hales has been listed with the National Crime Information Center as a runaway. The department also made contact with an Itawamba County friend but gained no new information.
Hales told authorities she had “just been walking around” during the time family and friends were unable to locate her.
