Mississippi Guard soldiers from 155th to be honored

HATTIESBURG — Mississippi Army National Guard soldiers of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team will be recognized Saturday for their service in Iraq.

Retired Brig. Gen. William L. Glasgow will present the brigade with the campaign participation streamer for participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The streamers are presented to groups that participate in a war.

The 155th was made up of nearly 3,500 soldiers from throughout Mississippi and others from around the country.

When it went to Iraq the first time in 2005, it was the largest single deployment of Mississippi Guard soldiers since World War II. The brigade also saw the most casualties of Mississippi Guard soldiers since World War II.

The 155 the deployed again in 2009.

The ceremony is at Camp Shelby’s parade field at 8:30 a.m.
