GULFPORT — Mississippi Republicans and Democrats are heading to Florida as the Nov. 6 presidential election approaches to knock on doors on behalf of their favored candidates.
The Sun Herald reports both parties are focusing efforts out-of-state because Republican nominee Mitt Romney is a heavy favorite to win Mississippi’s six electoral votes.
Mississippi GOP Executive Director Brandon Payne expects as many as 100 Mississippi Republicans to hit the road for Romney. Some will work around Pensacola, but others are going to central Florida, he says.
Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Rickey Cole says Democrats will continue sending helpers to Florida. Democrats at home have been making calls for President Barack Obama and congressional candidates, while GOP counterparts have been manning phones for Romney.
