Mississippi St. uses big 4th to beat Austin Peay

ATLANTA — Evan Mitchell pitched into the ninth inning, Ryan Collins had a two-run double in Mississippi State’s seven-run fourth and the Bulldogs State beat Austin Peay 8-3 in the Atlanta Regional on Saturday night.

Mississippi State (36-23), which led 8-0 after four innings, can advance to the super regionals with a victory Sunday night over the winner of the Austin Peay-Georgia Tech elimination game.

Mitchell (6-1) left with no outs in the ninth after hitting a batter and walking the next two batters he faced. Austin Peay (34-23) scored three times in the ninth off Daryl Norris, but all three were charged to Mitchell, who allowed eight hits, five walks and struck out eight.

Jeremy Dobbs (9-3) allowed five hits, three runs and three walks with two strikeouts in 3 2-3 innings.

MSU will play Austin Peay-Ga. Tech winner at 6 p.m. Sunday in Atlanta.
