Mississippi State Football: Freshmen Schuessler, Perkins won't be on 2012 roster

Freshman football players Nick Schuessler and Adarrius Perkins will not be on MSU’s 2012 football roster, a team spokesman said today.

Both players signed in February and arrived on campus earlier this month. They are currently enrolled in summer school, and the first summer session ends Monday. It’s not known exactly when Schuessler and Perkins will leave, and no reason was given for their departures. It’s also not known whether one or both of them will return to MSU at some point.

Schuessler is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound quarterback from Loganville, Ga., and was going to be MSU’s third QB behind junior Tyler Russell and redshirt freshman Dak Prescott. He was a late addition to the 2012 class. As a senior, Schuessler passed for 1,753 yards and 19 touchdowns to lead Grayson High School to the Class AAAAA state title.

Schuessler did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Perkins is a wide receiver from Forrest County AHS in Brooklyn. The 6-2, 220-pounder had 22 catches for 475 yards and six touchdowns last season, and on defense he made 39 tackles.

Last week, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Nick Redmond left the program.

Head coach Dan Mullen is on vacation and unavailable for comment.
