STARKVILLE — Mississippi State University is reporting that its MSU Foundation raised $86.4 million during the 2012 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
Officials say that breaks the previous year’s record of $80.3 million.
John Rush, MSU vice president for development and alumni, says gifts have been accelerating for the past few years despite an economic recession.
Rush says more than $34 million of this total came from “StatePride: An Initiative for Student and Faculty Support,” which was launched in 2009. He says StatePride has raised $98 million of the $100 million goal it set for Dec. 31, 2012.
The program will provide money for student scholarships and salary support for faculty.
Rush says the gifts will help MSU weather the economic downturn.
