Mobile home fire claims one

A mobile home fire near the Lee County, Itawamba line has resulted in one death.

Amber Parker, 23, perished in a fire that consumed the home at 1289 County Line Road, Tupelo, located in Itawamba County, Tuesday morning. According to Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson, Parker was seven months pregnant.

A second victim, Alex Witcher, was also inside the home. He suffered severe burns and multiple lacerations during the fire. He was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. As of 12:30 p.m., he was still at the NMMC being prepared for transportation to another facility.

Dickinson said there were also two children, ages three and four, inside the house when it caught fire. They are uninjured.

According to Dickinson, a passerby reported the house fire at approximately 10:10 a.m. Tuesday morning. By the time emergency officials arrived on scene, the mobile home was fully-engulfed.

Witcher and the two children were outside the home when officials arrived. Parker was found inside a bathroom. Dickinson said Witcher had tried, but was unable, to rescue Parker from the home. He reportedly received his injuries trying help her escape.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. The Mississippi Fire Marshall and Itawamba County fire investigators are currently on-scene.

Parker’s body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
