ABERDEEN – A jailer with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has been fired following an internal investigation that found he had an inappropriate relationship with a female inmate.
“I fired him. It was a consensual relationship, but I’m not gonna put up with any hanky panky,” said Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.
According to Cantrell, the alleged relationship occurred several months ago and the department handled the situation based on instructions given by the district attorney’s office.
The jailer, who was hired by the department in April 2013, was fired in March 2014. The inmate was transferred to the Lowndes County Jail.
