Mooreville family competes for $100,000

MOOREVILLE – You can wish the Shumpert family all the luck in the world, but it won’t help them win $100,000 from “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
The family will appear on the show today at 6 p.m. on ABC stations, but the episode was taped about a month ago.
“People have wished us luck. They don’t know we already know. They don’t think about it or they don’t know how the show works,” said Kirk Shumpert, 43, of Mooreville.
The family is used to keeping secrets. This is the second go-round for the Shumperts, who won $10,000 on the show in December.
Shumpert’s wife, Courtney, 35, filmed their entry and caught Shumpert on his cellphone pretending to be Santa Claus. He’s talking to his daughter, Savannah, now 6, who’s also on camera and thinks she’s talking to the real Jolly Ol’ Elf.
Five other videos are in competition, and all of them feature kids or animals.
“That seems to be the theme,” he said.
The show flew the family to Los Angeles in January. In addition to the parents, Savannah and her twin sister, Sharlee, made the trip with their sister, Sheridan, 2.
The Shumperts went a couple of days early and got to enjoy a “super fun” trip to Disneyland, Shumpert said.
If they actually won the $100,000 grand prize, the family can expect more good times to come.
So feel free to wish them luck.
“Hey, I need all the luck I can get,” Shumpert said.
