More roundabouts in the offing in Oxford

By NEMS Daily Journal

OXFORD – The University of Mississippi’s roundabouts (traffic circles) on University Place and Hathorn Road have been successful enough that campus designers will add another, prompting University Architect Ian Banner to joke, “Roundabouts are us.”
A new circular intersection will replace the four-way-stop just north of Highway 6, facilitating traffic among Coliseum Drive, Hill Drive and Hathorn Road. The design will accommodate cyclists, pedestrians and motor vehicles.
Besides better flow on weekdays, a second anticipated benefit is quicker dispersal of traffic after ball games.
MDOT has awarded a $500,000 grant toward the expected $700,000 cost. Completion is set for August 2014 or earlier.
