OXFORD – A Thursday morning fire fully consumed a Martin Luther King Jr. Drive apartment building in Oxford.
Oxford Fire Chief Cary Sallis said his department was dispatched at 2:53 a.m. and the fire was fully involved at the time of their arrival.
Sallis said the fire began in the dining/kitchen area of one of the four apartments in the building. All of the apartments were connected by a wooden porch, and when the flames vented out of the originating apartment, the porch carried the fire into the other apartments.
The building was a total loss.
Sallis said they have not yet determined what caused the fire but have identified its area of origin. Residents were home in two adjacent apartments but got out uninjured; the fourth apartment was vacant.
Sallis said no one was home in the originating apartment at the time of the fire.
The flames were put out around 4:30 a.m.
He said no foul play is suspected at this time.
